Software Engineer - Xumii - R&D - Chengdu, China
Myriad is looking for a Software Engineer for the Chengdu office to work with our Xumii development team. Your mission will be to ensure the successful development, enhancement, correction and subsequent delivery of Xumii mobile social networking products, to quality against the project plans as defined and agreed.

Xumii Services uniquely combines social networks (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) and instant messaging services (e.g. Google Talk, Windows Live) with phone features (contacts and photos) to form an aggregated mobile social networking service for mobile phone manufacturers and mobile operators.
MISSION
To ensure the successful development, enhancement, correction and subsequent delivery of Xumii mobile social networking products, to quality against the project plans as defined and agreed.
The first Xumii product to be developed and customized for mobile operators is a mobile website that displays a consolidated list of social updates from Facebook, Twitter, etc. on a wide range of mobile phones (as XHTML-MP pages), served from a Java server. The server will also be integrated to operator SMS systems to push SMS notifications to phones which prompt the user to open the mobile website. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Development, documentation and unit testing of customer-focused and relevant solutions to Product and Engineering requirements
- Compliance with agile and waterfall development methodologies as required
- Compliance to mobile software industry best practice
- Compliance with Quality policies, procedures and standards, including test coverage metrics
- Run test plans with very high attention to detail, including investigation and correction of issues
- Co-ordinate Engineering activities with the Xumii Engineering Team based in Sydney, Australia, and other Myriad Engineering teams around the world
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Minimum 3-5 years experience of Java and J2EE development
- Relevant mobile application development experience; markup Languages (XHTML-MP, XML and Script:ECMA), SMS messaging (SMPP), and network protocols (HTTP)
- Experience of both agile and waterfall development methodologies, and the relative advantages of each
- Experience of test driven development
- Design and implement systems at a quality level that enables Xumii applications and services to scale in production to millions of active users.
- Ability to work on problems of diverse scope and to resolve a wide range of issues in imaginative and practical ways
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts
- Computer Science or Software Engineering Degree or an equivalent degree with significant computer programming content
Desirable
- Experience with integration to social network APIs such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- Experience of working as part of a geographically distributed team
