Team Leader - Xumii - R&D - Chengdu, China


Myriad is looking for a Team Leader for the Chengdu office to work with our Xumii development team. Your mission will be to lead the Chengdu Engineering Team for Xumii Services; to ensure the successful delivery of Xumii technology to our clients, and to ensure the Team is suitably skilled and motivated to achieve successful delivery on time, on specification, to quality and on budget.

Xumii Services uniquely combines social networks (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) and instant messaging services (e.g. Google Talk, Windows Live) with phone features (contacts and photos) to form an aggregated mobile social networking service for mobile phone manufacturers and mobile operators.


MISSION

To lead (and assist with the setup and growth of) the Chengdu Engineering Team (of developers and testers) for Xumii Services; to ensure the successful delivery of Xumii technology to our clients, and to ensure the Team is suitably skilled and motivated to achieve successful delivery on time, on specification, to quality and on budget.

The first Xumii product to be developed and customized for mobile operators is a mobile website that displays a consolidated list of social updates from Facebook, Twitter, etc. on a wide range of mobile phones (as XHTML-MP pages), served from a Java server. The server will also be integrated to operator SMS systems to push SMS notifications to phones which prompt the user to open the mobile website. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Manage the Engineering Team of developers and testers across a number of concurrent projects ensuring they are completed on time, on specification, to quality and on budget.
  • Monitor, control and report projects using agile &/or waterfall development methodologies as required, through both development and QA phases.
  • Work closely with Xumii Services Engineering (located in Sydney, Australia) to optimize the methodology, processes, tools, and documentation and reporting required to ensure the successful development and testing of projects.
  • Work closely with the Product Manager to understand the business requirements of the project/s.
  • Hands-on software development (primarily Java / J2EE) and leadership.
  • Build a focused and highly motivated team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • A proven track record of successful Engineering Team Leadership (minimum of 3-5 years) – including both developers and testers.
  • Hands-on experience of Java software development.
  • Mobile website development experience.
  • Experience of both agile and waterfall development methodologies, and the relative advantages of each.
  • Team management experience (comfortable with teams of 3-8 staff).
  • Mobile software development experience.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills – fluent English essential.
  • Must be prepared to travel – we anticipate there will be some time in our Australia office to meet the other engineers and learn our systems initially and potentially 1 week a quarter going forward.

Desirable

  • Experience with integration to social network APIs such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Experience working with SMS technologies, for example using SMPP protocol.
  • Experience of working as part of a geographically distributed team.
